The Nomindo survey is here!

Newsletter Number 3

Welcome to the third Nomindo newsletter, straight from the campers’ vacation!

Many thanks for the numerous responses to the Nomindo survey in newsletter number 2.

Survey results

The survey provided many great insights that will be incorporated into the development of Nomindo.

A short summary of the answers:

  • Your adventures are mainly documented on your own blog or on various providers. Polarsteps was mentioned the most.
  • The winner when it comes to discovering campsites is clearly park4night, closely followed by classic internet searches and map providers.
  • Recommendations from friends for new routes is the favorite when it comes to planning new trips.
  • You mainly use various map providers for planning, some of you also still use traditional paper maps.
  • GPS tracking is not used very often.
  • The most important functions of Nomindo seem to be the travel diary and planning.
  • Data protection is a high priority, as is privacy and data ownership.
  • Some of you might imagine that Nomindo will initially be financed via crowdfunding.
  • The sustainable financing should take place via a subscription model, which may cost between CHF 2.00 and 5.00 per month.

With all the input, including the many great comments, we can set the priorities for Nomindo. For the time being, the survey remains open and further responses are very welcome:

Outlook

The development of the Nomindo application is starting these days. If everything goes according to plan, a first beta version should be available by fall / winter.

It is currently planned to release Nomindo as Open Source under the AGPLv3 license after the first development phase. However, the main focus is on making Nomindo available as a service so that the camper community can benefit from each other through travel reports and routes.

We envision a “pay what you want” model for the sustainable financing of Nomindo. In principle, use should be free of charge, but every user should be able to decide for themselves whether and how much they want to contribute.

Technical

For all the nerds among you: Nomindo is developed with Python Django. The database will probably be SQLite with SpatiaLite, so that operation will be as simple as possible. Nomindo is being developed on Codeberg.
